function of timer in frost free refrigerator

There are many separate components in a refrigerator's defrost system that must work in concert for a frost free system to work properly. We will attempt to explain the workings using simplified electrical schematics.
The heart of the defrost system is the defrost control. The most common control is a mechanical defrost timer which is a motorized device that opens and closes several electrical contacts. Each contact can be thought of as a simple light switch but instead of a light, one connects the defrost heater circuit, another connects the cooling system. When one of these is switched on, the other is switched off. A motor on the timer (NOT illustrated) turns a cam that opens and closes these contacts at set intervals (see below for other types).
Cooling Cycle
Refrigerator cycling on thermostat (cold control)
During the cooling mode, the defrost timer closes a contact to the compressor circuit so it will run. The circuit to the defrost heater is open.
While in this mode, the thermostat (a.k.a. cold control) cycles the compressor and fan motors on and off to maintain an appropriate temperature.

How To Test the Defrost Timer

A mechanical defrost timer controls the defrost cycle of the freezer. In older models, the timer runs continuously and roughly every six hours, cuts power to the cooling system and sends power to the defrost heater. In newer models the timer advances only while the compressor or defrost cycle is running - an improvement for efficiency. As the timer continues to advance, power to the heating element is cut and power is restored to the cooling system. If the timer does not advance, the appliance will be stuck either in defrost or refrigerate mode, resulting in, respectively, no cooling or frost build-up.
Caution: Please read our safety information before attempting any testing or repairs.
Before testing the defrost timer, unplug the refrigerator to avoid an electrical shock hazard.
The defrost timer is usually found behind the front grill "toe kick" of the refrigerator. It may also be found behind a cover plate inside the refrigerator or freezer, in the temperature control console, or behind the refrigerator near the compressor.
To test whether the defrost timer is simply failing to advance, locate the advance screw and turn it clockwise until you hear it click. This advances it to the next mode. If it was cooling before, it is now in defrost mode. Simply wait about 35 minutes and check whether it has left defrost mode and has resumed cooling (listen for the compressor). If it does not advance, the timer motor is probably bad and the entire timer needs to be replaced. If it advances as it should, then you can follow the steps below to test the switch electrically.
The timer is usually held in place with one or more screws. Remove the screws and gently pull the timer out far enough to disconnect the wiring connector. The connector can be removed by firmly pulling and rocking it left and right. It is not necessary to note the position of the wires because the connector plug is keyed so that it can be replaced in only one way.

Relays Motor Compressor

A hermetic compressor motor relay is an automatic switching device designed to disconnect the motor start winding after the motor has come up to running speed. The two types of motor relays used in refrigeration and air-conditioning compressors are the current and the potential type.

The current-type relay
is most often used with small refrigeration compressors up to 1 hp. Where power is applied to the compressor motor, the relay solenoid coil attracts the relay armature upward. This causes bridging contact and stationary contact to engage (see Fig. 7-30). This energizes the motor start winding. When the compressor motor comes up to running speed, the motor’s main winding current is such that the relay solenoid coil de-energizes. This allows the relay contacts to drop open, which disconnects the motor start winding.
One thing to remember about this type of relay is its mounting. It should be mounted in a true vertical position so that the armature and bridging contact will drop free when the relay solenoid is de-energized.

Room calculation of Air conditioner

Ok..this time i want share the simple basic of calculation how to sizing the air-conditioner.This is a critical part to ensure our selection is suitable with our requirement for room or any space that we want to cooling.
We must calculate the total heat for that room in unit Btu/hr.From this we can convert Btu/hr to air-conditioner size in horse power ( Hp ).We can estimate the size depend on horse power ( hp ).
Total heat calculation ( Btu/hr ) :
1) Measure your room or space area ( width x length ).Use a metric unit for measurement ( meter ).Multiply with 700 to get in Btu/hr
Example : Room area = 10 meter x 6 meter = 60 m2
Btu/hr = 60 x 700 = 42,000 Btu/hr
2) Estimate occupant for this room.multiply with 500 to get in Btu/hr
Example : 5 peoples x 500 = 2500 Btu/hr
3) Estimate the heat from electrical equipments such as lighting, television, computer, fax machine, radio or etc.Refer wattage for equipment and multiply with 3.5
Example : TV = 100 watt, Computer : 200 watt, lighting : 150 watt ; Total : 450 watt
so 450 watt x 3.5 = 1575 Btu/hr
4) So we add all answer to get a total Btu/hr.
Example : 42,000 Btu/hr + 2,500 Btu/hr + 1,575 Btu/hr = 46,075 Btu/hr
5) To get air-conditioner sizing, we must divide Total heat ( Btu/hr) with 9800 Btu/hr
* This value is depend on cooling capacity for each air-conditioner due to efficiency of compressor. It maybe 9,800 btu/hr,10,000 btu/hr or 12,000 btu/hr
Example : 46,075 / 9800 = 4.7 hp
6) From this answer we can estimate to choose a 5 Hp of air-conditioner for our room.
If you not sure to calculate air-conditioner size for your room,Please contact your local HVAC expert and the will calculate and advice the suitable size and types of air-conditioner for you.
This calculation is just for estimation value. It not absolute answer for your air-conditioner sizing. You can make a comparison your estimate air-conditioner size with your local HVAC expert.I hope this information
can help all of you how to sizing the air-conditioner to avoid unnecessary cost.

Air conditioning: (often referred to as AC, A/C, or air con)[1] is the process of removing heat and moisture from the interior of an occupied space to improve the comfort of occupants. Air conditioning can be used in both domestic and commercial environments. This process is most commonly used to achieve a more comfortable interior environment, typically for humans and other animals; however, air conditioning is also used to cool and dehumidify rooms filled with heat-producing electronic devices, such as computer servers, power amplifiers, and to display and store some delicate products, such as artwork.
Air conditioners often use a fan to distribute the conditioned air to an occupied space such as a building or a car to improve thermal comfort and indoor air quality. Electric refrigerant-based AC units range from small units that can cool a small bedroom, which can be carried by a single adult, to massive units installed on the roof of office towers that can cool an entire building. The cooling is typically achieved through a refrigeration cycle, but sometimes evaporation or free cooling is used. Air conditioning systems can also be made based on desiccants (chemicals which remove moisture from the air). Some AC systems reject or store heat in subterranean pipes.[2]
In the most general sense, air conditioning can refer to any form of technology that modifies the condition of air (heating, (de-) humidification, cooling, cleaning, ventilation, or air movement). In common usage, though, "air conditioning" refers to systems which cool air. In construction, a complete system of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning is referred to as HVAC.[3]

An evaporator coil is the part of an air conditioner or heat pump that absorbs the heat from the air in your house. It is located inside the air handler or attached to the furnace.

How the evaporator and condenser coils work together

The evaporator and condenser coils inside a central air conditioner or heat pump make it possible for these systems to complete the heat exchange process, which is the basis of refrigerated cooling and, in the case of heat pumps, heating. The coils form a loop and, even though they’re continuous, each has a different function.

The role of the evaporator coil

Located inside the blower compartment or air handler, the evaporator coil holds the chilled refrigerant that the compressor moves into it.

As the air from the blower fan moves over the coil, the cold refrigerant removes the heat from your home’s air. The refrigerant becomes warmer and travels to the condenser coil outdoors.

How does a Chiller Work?

How does a Chiller Work?

In most process cooling applications, a pumping system circulates cool water or a water/glycol solution from the chiller to the process. This cool fluid removes heat from the process and the warm fluid returns to the chiller. The process water is the means by which heat transfers from the process to the chiller.
Process chillers contain a chemical compound, called a refrigerant. There are many types of refrigerant and applications depending on the temperatures required but they all work on the basic principle of compression and phase-change of the refrigerant from a liquid to a gas and back to a liquid. This process of heating and cooling the refrigerant and changing it from a gas to a liquid and back again is the refrigeration cycle.
The refrigeration cycle starts with a low-pressure liquid/gas mix entering the evaporator. In the evaporator, heat from the process water or water/glycol solution boils the refrigerant, which changes it from a low-pressure liquid to a low-pressure gas. The low-pressure gas enters the compressor where it is compressed to high-pressure gas. The high-pressure gas enters the condenser where ambient air or condenser water removes heat to cool it to a high-pressure liquid. The high-pressure liquid travels to the expansion valve, which controls how much liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator, thereby beginning the refrigeration cycle again.
There are two types of condensers used in chillers; air-cooled and water-cooled. An air-cooled condenser uses ambient air to cool and condense the hot refrigerant gas back down to a liquid. It can be located inside the chiller or can be remotely located outside, but ultimately it rejects the heat from the chiller to the air. In a water-cooled condenser, water from a cooling tower cools and condenses the refrigerant.
